How Does Chiropractic Work?
Chiropractic care works because you are a self healing, self regulating organism controlled by your nervous system. Millions of instructions flow from your brain, down your spinal cord and to all your organs and tissues. Signals sent back to the brain confirm if your body is in proper working order. Improper motion or position of the moving bones of the spine can interfere with this exchange by irritating nerves and compromising the function of the affected tissues and organs. Specific spinal adjustments can help improve mind and body communications. Health often returns with improved nervous system control of the body.

What Is a Subluxation?
Improper motion or position of the moving bones of the spine is called a subluxation. This subluxation can interfere with the vital exchange of signals by irritating nerves and compromising the function of affected organs and tissues.

Do I Have A Slipped Disc?
The disc is a soft pulpy "shock absorber". It has a fibrous outer ring which contains a jelly-like substance. A slipped disc can refer to a wide variety of problems. A disc can't slip because of the way it attaches to the spinal bones above and below it. A disc can bulge, tear or herniate. It can dry out or collapse but never slip.

Do I Have A Pinched Nerve?
A pinched nerve is rare. It is more common that an adjacent spinal bone irritates or rubs a nerve. These subluxations interfere with the nerve messages being sent to the brain. This can produce unhealthy alterations to the organs and tissues connected by the affected nerves.

How Do You Get Subluxations?
There are three main causes of subluxations. Physical causes include slips, falls and accidents. Emotional causes include grief, anger and fear. Chemical causes include alcohol, drugs, pollution and poor diet.

How Do I Know If I Have A Subluxation?
You can have a subluxation and not even be aware of it. Like many other health problems they can be present before any warning signs appear. A complete examination can show the location and degree of these subluxations.

Can Subluxations Clear Up On Their Own?
Today's lifestyles are a constant source of subluxations. Fortunately, our bodies have the power to self correct many of these problems. Relief can come from bending, stretching or just sleeping. When these actions do not resolve the problem, a chiropractic doctor is needed.

What Is An Adjustment?
Chiropractic adjustments usually involve a quick thrust that helps add motion to affected spinal joints. Some methods used include the doctor's hands, an instrument, gravity, or a special table.

Can I Have Chiropractic Care After Back Surgery?
Yes. A chiropractic doctor will avoid the modified areas of your spine. Surgery often causes instability around the involved level. These are the areas that will be focused on.

Can Patients With Osteoporosis Get Chiropractic Care?
Yes. When developing a care plan, your chiropractic doctor takes this issue and any other special circumstances into account. The method of treatment will be suited to your age, size and medical condition.
